The colder weather is upon us with some warmer days still mixed in. You can expect to catch bonita, bluefish, whiting, flounder & redfish this month, with possibly a king and some pomano in the mix if you want to venture out in your kayak. You can also surf fish or hit the pier as well for these fish. Inshore expect the trout to start moving into the canals & bayous in search of warmer water. A live shrimp or plastic on a jighead should do the trick bounced slowly on the bottom. Like flounder they will stack up in certain areas, so if you find one, chances are there are more. The winter produces really skinny water due to the north winds pushing the water out and tailing reds are a favorite this time of year.
Upcoming reg changes:
As of Feb 1, 2012 the redfish bag limit will be two slot fish instead of one
Beginning Feb 1, 2012 speckled trout will no longer have a closed season
Beginning Dec 23, 2011 state waters the bag limit for red grouper will be changed from 2 to 4. The gag grouper will continue it's closure
.
